Heartfelt Fingerprint Coffee Mug: A Sweet Gift for Dad & Me

When I originally created this Father’s Day Mug project years ago, I used enamel paint and a toothpick – as seen in the step photos below – but have included paint pens as an easier method.

Helpful Crafting Tips
Acrylic paints will wash off this mug. However, for decorative use only you may use acrylic paints with acrylic sealer to coat them for protection and use damp cloth to wipe clean when necessary. Check your local dollar store for affordable mugs.

Make sure your coffee mug is clean and dry prior to beginning!

Use a child’s thumb and red enamel paint to create the “daddy” figure on a cup, as shown here. You can make the figure larger if it appears too small.

Use blue paint (or pink for girls) and your pointer finger to add the child to the cup.

Use a thin paintbrush to draw legs and arms onto characters, interconnecting their arms so they look as though they’re holding hands.

Use a thin paintbrush to add hair.

Use a thin paintbrush to write “Daddy & me” above the characters and “& me” below them.

Create the perfect Father’s Day mug in the oven according to the directions on the back of your enamel paint bottle or air dry it instead; air drying usually requires multiple days rather than hours in a low temp oven.
